A Gwinnett County man died in a car crash Friday near a mountain range in North Carolina, according to several media reports.

Kurt Klein, 61, of Duluth, died when his car hit a tree near the Grandfather Mountain Overlook parking lot, The Associated Press reported. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Grandfather Mountain the highest peak of the Blue Ridge Mountain range, and it is about 75 miles from Asheville. The parking lot was along the Blue Ridge Parkway, which runs 469 miles.

A Parkway spokeswoman said this is the 11th death on the parkway this year. Twenty deaths occurred on the parkway last year.
