A frosty Friday morning will give way to a weekend of sun, hoops and gridiron action, followed by Sunday showers.

Roads leading into and around downtown Atlanta on Friday and Saturday will likely be crowded with football fans going to the high school football finals at the Georgia Dome.

Games start Friday at 2:30 p.m. and go into the evening, starting again at 11:30 a.m., on Saturday and going all day.

If that’s not enough football, the Atlanta Falcons enjoy “dome-field” advantage on Sunday with a 1 p.m. kickoff against the New York Giants.

Also downtown Saturday, the Hawks take on the Golden State Warriors at 7 p.m. at Philips Arena.

Chilly morning temperatures Friday will see a significant change through the weekend, forecasters say.

“Clouds this morning, (but) plenty of sunshine this afternoon,” AM 750 and 95.5 FM News /Talk WSB chief meteorologist Kirk Mellish said.

While morning lows hovered near freezing Friday morning, temperatures are expected to double by day’s end, Mellish said.

“High of 61,” for Friday he said.

But the warm-up is accompanied by wet weather, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brad Nitz said.

“Rain returns for the weekend, but not until Sunday,” Nitz said. “Expect cloudy skies Saturday.”

Temperatures will remain in the 60s through the weekend, forecasters say.

Only two road construction projects are working through the weekend, Georgia Department of Transportation authorities said.

Expect delays in both east- and westbound left lanes of I-285 near I-75 beginning 9 p.m. Friday and ending at 5 a.m. on Monday, DOT officials said.

And work on the two southbound left lanes of Georgia 400 at Lenox Road is planned from 8 p.m. Friday until 11 a.m. Saturday.
