Organizers expect as many as 1,000 people to participate in a rally Tuesday to support alternatives to traditional public school.

The rally, sponsored by the Georgia Center for Opportunity, the Georgia Charter Schools Association, Students First and Americans for Prosperity, is scheduled to be held on the Washington Street steps of the state Capitol from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.

Television star Keisha Knight Pulliam, who starred on “The Cosby Show,” will be one of the speakers. Gov. Nathan Deal is expected to give closing remarks.

The rally is being held as part of National School Choice Week, when groups across the country tout vouchers, charter schools, private schools and various other alternatives to traditional public schools, which some believe are not doing a good enough job.
