Brenda Bueno, a popular Atlanta internet radio host, didn’t have to name names when she said she wanted to talk about professionals who took advantage of people.

Even as she was broadcasting live, Bueno began to receive text message after text message from listeners asking if she was talking about Dr. José Rios.

Some of the listeners said they had been subjected to sexual advances and groping by Rios. Others had heard similar stories from friends.

After Bueno persuaded one patient, Astrid Chavez, to go to police, Rios was arrested at his shopping plaza clinic on a single misdemeanor count of sexual battery. By the next month, after efforts of Bueno and the Spanish-language newspaper MundoHispánico in bringing together other women with similar stories, Rios was charged with two additional counts of sexual battery and one count of pandering.

Rios has agreed not practice medicine until the criminal case is resolved. The charges are pending. Rios did not respond to interview requests and his attorney declined to comment.
