Investigators at the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office have reopened a 1999 homicide investigation, thanks to new information about suspects connected with the case.

The body of Abdelaziz Abuzaidieh was found on Sept. 1, 1999, after the Griffin Fire Department extinguished a brush fire on North Hill Street just south of Northside Drive, according to a news release today from the Spalding sheriff’s office. A homicide investigation began shortly after the discovery, and it was determined that Abuzaidieh, who owned a Chevron gas station on North Hill Street, was shot in his vehicle as he was leaving his business, authorities said.

The case turned cold after all leads had been exhausted, but new information has lead authorities to reopen the investigation.
