The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has charged an 18-year-old in the killing of a South Georgia girl.

Over the weekend, Semaj Antonio Moss, 18, was charged with malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault. He is accused of fatally stabbing Alazia Johnson, 9, on Oct. 6, at the Peterson Apartments in Tifton, which is less than 100 miles south of Macon. He was picked up in Lowndes County and is being held at the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office until he can be transported to the Tift County Jail.

Last week, the Tifton Police Department posted a message on its Facebook page to implore the public for help in finding the suspect.

"We ask that everyone be patient as we pull together the evidence and information needed to bring the person or persons responsible for this crime to justice. We ask that you keep the family and friends in prayer.”

A loved one has set up a GoFundMe page, titled Justice for Alazia, for the family to raise money for Alazia’s funeral arrangements. The organizer describes themselves as the 9-year-old’s grandmother.

“I just buried my daughter a few weeks ago so we’re needing as much help as possible and this came as a shock to us all when my granddaughter which was only 9 was tragically murdered today. I ask if you can help in anyway possible please help out,” read a message on the GoFundMe page, which has raised more than $9,700 for the girl’s funeral arrangements.
