Investigators with the Smyrna Police Department are looking for people who may have witnessed an accident that seriously injured a pregnant woman and a child.
About 5 p.m. Monday, three people in a 2012 Jetta and two people in a 1996 Dodge Ram van were involved in an accident at South Cobb Drive and King Springs Road, Cpl. Ed Cason told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“We don’t know how the accident occurred,” he said. “There’s no physical evidence to help detectives (determine) what vehicles did what. When they got there, the vehicles were already at rest and there were no witnesses that stepped forward that night.”
Two children were taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, Cason said. One was treated and released. Another remains in the hospital with a lacerated liver.
Two men and the pregnant woman were taken to WellStar Cobb Hospital in Austell. While both men have been treated and released, the pregnant woman is in the intensive care unit on a ventilator, Cason said.
“This is a precaution because they have to do some type of surgery on her,” he said. “They’re trying to bring her oxygen levels down so they can perform the surgery safely.”
Anyone who saw the accident is asked to call Officer Paul Vargas at 678-631-5280 or Sgt. K.B Owens at 678-631-5222.
