Skeletal remains found in Troup County woods

Authorities in Troup County are investigating after skeletal remains were found Thursday afternoon near an interstate ramp.

Troup sheriff’s Sgt. Stewart Smith said the remains were found around 5:30 p.m. Thursday in a wooded area near Whitesville Street and I-85, just south of LaGrange.

“The remains were found inside and outside of a small camping tent and appear to have been there for several months,” Smith said in an email. “No ID was found.”

He said the remains were sent to the GBI Crime Lab for further investigation.
