A string of armed robberies targeting metro college students continued early Friday when a Spelman College student was robbed at gunpoint about a block from campus.

In the past 10 days, two Morehouse and three Georgia Tech students have been robbed.

The most recent victim told officers that she was sitting in her vehicle at the corner of Sells Avenue and Legacy Drive in southwest Atlanta around 3:25 a.m. Friday when another vehicle pulled in front of hers and three men got out, produced handguns and demanded her property, Atlanta police spokesman John Chafee said.

“The victim was robbed of her phone and other items and advised that the suspects looked through her vehicle for additional items to take,” Chafee told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in an email.

The victim was not injured, he said.

Tuesday morning, two students from neighboring Morehouse College were robbed at gunpoint in separate incidents minutes apart and only a few blocks from one another. On Aug. 26, Georgia Tech police issued a warning about a young robbing crew targeting students on that campus.

Morehouse campus police beefed up visibility and patrols in the wake of Tuesday’s robberies, school spokeswoman Elise Durham said.

Durham added that campus police also routinely conduct safety briefings at least once a month in residence halls, distribute wallet cards featuring safety tips to students and do special safety briefings for incoming freshmen.
