As they investigated the burglary of three storage units, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office arrested six people after being led to a residence where drugs were being distributed, the sheriff’s office said Friday.
Three storage units and a cargo trailer were burglarized sometime between Jan. 27 and Jan. 29 at Sawnee Storage off of Georgia Highway 20 West, Sheriff Duane Piper said in a press release. After viewing surveillance video, investigators located the suspect, Joshua Williams, 20, in his vehicle on Settingdown Road in Forsyth County, after which a short chase ensued and Williams was arrested.
Search warrants were obtained for three residences where stolen items were located, according to the sheriff’s office. In addition to finding a flat screen television taken from one of the storage units, investigators found methamphetamine, marijuana and drug-related objects while serving the final search warrant at a residence on Leigh Lane in north Forsyth County.
Stolen items were also recovered from a residence on Settingdown Road and another on Jones Bridge Road, where lawn care equipment was found.
“This investigation clearly shows the connection between thefts and the drug culture,” Piper said in the press release. “Our investigators did a good job in following up on all leads, recovering much of the stolen property.”
Williams, who during the car chase attempted to drive in reverse down a roadway, was charged with three counts of burglary in the second degree, three counts of felony theft and criminal trespass and several traffic offenses.
Other arrests included Ashley Laird, 26, of Alpharetta; Cody Beavers, 21, of Gainesville; Amber Nicholson, 23, of Flowery Branch; Colton Beavers, 19, of Gainesville; and Brynn Grichuck, 27, of Suwanee. Each faces different charges, many of which involve theft, burglary, drug trafficking and possession. They are being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center.
Colton Beavers, who was charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug-related objects, was released on Feb. 12 on a $12,265 bond.
