Two drivers were seriously injured in a crash Wednesday afternoon in Cherokee County, according to the fire department.

Firefighters were called around 5:15 to the intersection of Howell Bridge Road and Ball Ground Highway, south of Ball Ground, Tim Cavender, spokesman for the Cherokee fire department, said Wednesday night.

Initial reports indicted a driver was entrapped, but emergency responders arrived to find that neither man was entrapped, Cavender said. A Toyota Tundra and Chevrolet Blazer collided, but no details were released about the cause of the crash.

The driver of the Toyota sustained injuries to his chest and head, and the driver of the Chevrolet had an injured leg, Cavender said. Both were taken by ambulance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in serious condition.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.
