A Chatham County police officer was arrested Friday night after being accused of sexually assaulting a child.

The Bryan County Sheriff’s Office arrested Christopher Crick, 33, after it was alerted of a complaint that the officer sexually assaulted a minor, the Chatham County Police Department told NBC news affiliate WSAV. Crick is still booked at the Bryan County Detention Center on three felony charges of aggravated child molestation, sodomy and statutory rape, according to arrest records. The victim is reportedly a child Crick previously knew.

CCPD supervisors were aware of the arrest late Friday. Crick was arrested about 10 p.m. Friday, which led to Crick being placed on administrative leave. Chatham County Police Chief Jeff Hadley spoke with Bryan County authorities and decided Crick would be terminated over the weekend, but he was not officially terminated until Monday.

Crick was hired in July 2019 and had no previous department disciplinary actions or citizen complaints against him, the department told the news station.

Crick is being held without a bond.
