The first weekend of the year is off to an unseasonably warm start as temperatures are expected to reach the mid-60s for a second consecutive day.
There are plenty of clouds around on Saturday morning, although no rain is expected until later tonight, Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Eboni Deon said. Meanwhile, a dense fog advisory is in effect for much of metro Atlanta until 10 a.m.
“We are starting to see a few peeks of sunshine through all these clouds, but we are still tracking some areas of dense fog,” she said.
Temperatures in Atlanta have already reached the mid-50s. but it’s expected to get even warmer this afternoon as the rain holds off. That’s good news for those looking to get outdoors after a soggy New Year’s Day.
While an isolated shower or two is possible this evening, the majority of the rain will be concentrated to areas south of metro Atlanta, according to the latest forecast, which calls for a 30% chance of storms.
The nice weather should linger through at least midweek as the rain holds off, but Sunday is expected to be about 10 degrees cooler, Deon said.
“Temperatures are going to get back to where we should be for this time of year, topping out in the low 50s,” she said.
