Electric vehicle charging stations are headed for Sandy Springs’ Hammond Park, after the Sandy Springs City Council accepted a grant from the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority to help fund installation.

The GEFA grant for $6,340, matched by the city, will fund two dual charge pedestal Level II charging stations that will be operational five days a week, 12 hours a day. City spokeswoman Sharon Kraun says the next step is finding a vendor. She says the cost hasn’t been set, but that typically, such stations charge $1-2 anhour, with a car charge-up typically requiring about four hours.

The city has agreed to keep the stations operational for at least three years, providing semi-annual data to the state during that time.
