Sandy Springs police have recovered a U-Haul truck filled with items taken during a string of overnight smash-and-grab burglaries at businesses along a 3-mile stretch of Roswell Road.

Three businesses in a shopping center at Roswell Road and Abernathy Road were among the eight businesses burglarized.

The burglars hit the Canton Cook II restaurant, Perk-n-Pooch coffee shop and dog wash and Hinton’s Savvy Cellar Wine, Beer & Spirits in the Abernathy Road shopping center.

The thieves also broke into a Starbucks, a Pizza Hut, a Chevron gas station and convenience store, a Valero gas station and convenience store and a Taco Bell.

The front doors of the businesses were smashed out by the thieves, who were apparently targeting the cash registers at the stores and restaurants.

Just before 9 a.m., Sandy Springs police spokesman Ron Momon told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in an email that a U-Haul truck was spotted by police leaving the Taco Bell with the headlights turned off.

“The U-Haul drove off at a high rate of speed and into a neighboring apartment complex and crashed,” Momon said. “Several unidentified suspects jumped out and fled from officers.”

Inside the truck, police found stolen property including cash registers, rolls of coins and other items.

“Who knows what kind of effect this will have on our business,” said Lexis Guerrisi, who has worked for Perk-n-Pooch for about two years. “People might stay away when they hear that there’s crime of some sort in the area. Hopefully, the police will figure out who’s doing this and it will come to a quick end.”
