A motorcyclist was killed Friday evening in a crash that shut down a major road in Roswell for nearly three hours, authorities said.

Investigators closed Alpharetta Highway in both directions at Commerce Parkway following the fatal wreck involving the motorcyclist and another vehicle, Roswell police spokesman Officer Sean Thompson said.

The crash occurred shortly before 9 p.m., authorities said. It’s unclear what caused the wreck, and police have not released the name of the biker who was killed. All lanes reopened just before midnight.
