Metro Atlanta’s break from April showers will come to an end Friday evening, and forecasters are warning that there’s a risk of severe storms on Saturday.

Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said that the next round of rain is expected to move into the area around 10 or 11 p.m. Friday, and the chance of rain is 80 percent Saturday.

“Moderate instability and strong low/mid-level winds will combine to produce at least a slight chance for severe thunderstorms Saturday,” the National Weather Service said in a statement. “The primary threat from any severe thunderstorms Saturday will be damaging winds and large hail, although an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.”

Most of Georgia is in the area under a slight risk of severe weather on Saturday.

The rain should clear out early on Sunday, said Minton, who put the chance of rain at 20 percent Sunday morning.

Afternoon highs will be in the low 70s through Friday and in the mid-70s Saturday and Sunday. Lows early Friday will be cool, dropping into the upper 40s, but lows will be in the upper 50s early Saturday and mid-60s early Sunday, Minton said.
