Report: Athens man seriously injured from crash on stolen bike

An Athens career criminal was seriously injured when he crashed the bicycle he was stealing.

Bennie Parrish Jr. allegedly stole the bike Monday from the bed of a pickup truck outside Sunshine Cycles, according to The Athens Banner-Herald. He was confronted by an employee who chased after him while he pedaled away.

Parrish ended the chase quickly when he crashed the bike into the curb and ‘face planted’ into the road. Athens-Clarke County police told the Banner-Herald Parrish was bleeding from his head and was transported to Athens Regional Medical Center where had yet to regain consciousness as of Wednesday.
