Thursday’s lunch hour was dry, but there’s a chance of rain by the evening commute, and an ever greater risk of showers on Friday, forecasters said.

Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said Thursday that a low pressure system developing in the Gulf of Mexico “will be pushing a lot of moisture to us in the next 24 hours.”

Minton said the chance of rain is 40 percent Thursday afternoon, increasing to 100 percent Friday before dropping back down to 40 percent on Saturday. Sunday should be mostly cloudy but dry, she said.

Highs will be in the upper 60s Thursday, but should only reach the low 50s Friday after starting the day around 47 degrees, Minton said.

The weekend will be warmer, with highs in the low 70s and morning lows in the upper 40s Saturday and mid-50s Sunday.

Atlanta’s normal high for mid-March is 64, and the normal low is 43.
