A rainy weekend continued in metro Atlanta on Sunday evening, and more showers are in the forecast through mid-week.

This week: Channel 2 meteorologist Jennifer Lopez said after diminishing slightly to 30 percent Monday, the rain risk goes back up to 40 percent Tuesday, both with mostly cloudy skies. Monday and Tuesday, expect highs in the mid-80s and lows in the high 60s to low 70s.

The National Weather Service said starting Wednesday the sun should break through the clouds and be anywhere from partly cloudy to mostly sunny for the rest of the week, but prepare for the possibility of showers and thunderstorms. A 40 percent chance of rain is predicted for Wednesday, dropping to 30 percent Thursday through Saturday.

Weekend in review: More than 2 inches of rain fell across parts of metro Atlanta overnight Friday.

Atlanta’s official rain gauge at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport recorded 2.31 inches of rain from the time showers began around 7 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday.

Other overnight rainfall totals included 2.66 inches in Johns Creek, 2.43 inches in Chamblee, 1.53 inches in Alpharetta and 1.35 inches in Marietta.

The weekend’s heavy rain should mostly wipe out Atlanta’s rainfall deficit for the year, which was 2.93 inches on Friday.

In northeast Atlanta, a large tree came that toppled during the heavy rain fell onto a car on Lindbergh Drive and knocked out power to about 1,200 homes. The driver of the Volkswagen hit by the tree was not injured.
