Friday will likely be a rainy day across metro Atlanta, and there’s a chance that snow or sleet might mix with the rain across far north Georgia, forecasters said.

The National Weather Service, in a special statement issued Thursday morning, said that a wintry mix is possible late Thursday night into Friday morning and again Friday night and Saturday morning north of a Summerville to Jasper to Cleveland line, but no travel problems are anticipated.

Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Glenn Burns said Friday will be rainy, windy and cold across metro Atlanta. Temperatures will start out in the mid-40s Friday morning — probably the day’s high, Burns said.

The chance of rain Friday is 100 percent with a possible break in the afternoon, he said.

Burns’ forecast for the weekend is for partly cloudy skies Saturday with a 48-degree high, followed by mostly sunny skies and a 54-degree high Sunday.

Lows for both weekend days should be in the high-30s.
