Saturday will be dry, but there’s a good chance that rain could put a damper on weekend construction work by late Sunday afternoon, forecasters said.
Here’s what you need to know to avoid traffic backups this weekend.
Sign work will block multiple lanes of the Perimeter
The Georgia Department of Transportation plans to block lanes for sign structure work at several different locations around I-285.
Two westbound lanes of the Perimeter will be closed between Northlake Parkway and Chamblee Tucker Road from 7:30 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, while one eastbound lane will be closed the same hours between New Northside Drive and Lavista Road.
More sign work will require the shutdown of three westbound lanes of I-285 between New Northside Drive and I-75 in Cobb County from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday. Not far from there, two northbound lanes of I-285 will be closed the same hours between Paces Ferry Road and Cobb Parkway.
The last of the weekend sign structure work will shut down two lanes of I-285 in both directions between Cascade Road and I-20 on the southwest quadrant of the Perimeter all weekend.
South of there, two southbound lanes of I-285 between Camp Creek Parkway and Washington Road will be shut down all weekend for concrete rehabilitation.
On I-20, bridge joint repairs will close three westbound lanes between the Downtown Connector and Lee Street and two eastbound lanes from Fulton Industrial Boulevard and I-285 throughout the weekend.
One lane of Ga. 400 in each direction between Sidney Marcus Boulevard and Lenox Road will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday through 7 p.m. Sunday for fiber optic cable installation.
Weekend to be half dry, half wet
Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton is predicting partly cloudy skies Saturday, with morning lows in the upper 20s followed by afternoon highs in the mid-50s.
There’s a 70 percent chance of rain beginning late Sunday afternoon, Minton said. Highs Sunday should be around 53 degrees, with lows in the upper 30s.
High-flying Hawks highlight weekend events
The Hawks play Portland at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Philadelphia at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Philips Arena.
In other weekend events, the Georgia World Congress Center hosts the Paws For a Cause Invitational gymnastics competition Friday through Sunday and the National Cheerleaders Association Atlanta Classic on Saturday.
