A rabid fox has led Henry County officials to issue a warning.

Authorities said a fox attacked a Henry County resident was bitten last weekend, along with a dog and a cat.

A fox caught in the vicinity of the attacks tested positive for rabies, and is believed to be the one linked to the weekend attacks, authorities said.

“We believe this is the same fox involved in the attacks over the weekend, although we can’t say with certainty,” County rabies control officer Vince Farah said.

As a result, the Henry County Animal Care and Control Department has issued a 31-day rabies quarantine … for a one-mile area around the Highlands Subdivision and the Summit Subdivision in McDonough, count spokesman Melissa Robinson said.

Three such alerts were issued in April after rabid raccoons were found in Henry County, officials said.

Farah recommends that pet owners in the quarantine area have their animals re-vaccinated. He also suggests that residents keep lids on trash cans, not leave pet food outside, and supervise children when they play outside, not approaching wild or domestic animals they’re not familiar with.
