You’ve had your tickets for weeks. Planned what you’re wearing days ago. It’s finally the day Beyonce and husband Jay Z will hit the stage in Atlanta at the Georgia Dome.
But how are you getting there? If you’re one of the 50,000-plus ticket holders, expect a traffic jam for tonight’s nearly sold-out show. That’s because construction on the city’s new stadium has cost the area more than 1,000 parking spots. And the evening rush hour in Atlanta already isn’t fun.
"I don't know if people realize that construction of the (new) stadium is literally 10 feet from the Georgia Dome in some areas. Even if you came to a Falcons game last year, things are completely different," Jason Kirksey, spokesman for the Georgia Dome, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
The Georgia Dome will open doors at 6 p.m., there is no opening act and the concert is expected to start at 8 p.m., AJC Music Scene blogger Melissa Ruggieri reported.
“At most of their recent shows, Bey and Jay arrived onstage closer to 9 p.m.,” Ruggieri wrote. “But it’s Beyonce. She can do whatever she wants, and that just might include starting on time at 8 p.m.”
- Getting there: Concert-goers are being urged to use MARTA as an alternative. The Georgia Dome stop is the first on the blue line from the Five Points station. Late Tuesday afternoon, parking permits were available online for the yellow lot only.
- The weather: The weather should cooperate, according to Meteorologist Brad Nitz with Channel 2 Action News. But scattered showers are possible throughout the evening.
- Need tickets: For those picking up tickets at will call, be aware that the Dome Ticket Office has been moved to an area between gates B and C. A handful of tickets were still available Tuesday afternoon on the Ticketmaster website. Single-ticket prices ranged from $187 to $5,000.
