White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are monitoring the situation in Atlanta.

“I want to tell the public that we urge them to heed guidance from officials and keep themselves safe,” she said during an afternoon press briefing. “Please keep yourself safe as the situation continues.”

Jean-Pierre went on to say that it was early and the White House did not have much information about what had occurred. But she said another high-profile incident of gun violence was adding to the president’s concern over the lack of congressional actions toward further gun control.

“Of course he’s frustrated,” she said.

She said the violence in public places like schools and churches were worrisome for the president, as well as many Americans.

“American people should be able to feel free to go into a grocery store, to go to a church,” she said. “Our kids should feel free and feel safe, and our teachers, administrators should feel safe to go into a school. And right now, we’re seeing weapons of war on our streets, which should not be.”

The Biden administration has advocated for mandating background checks on all gun sales and a ban on assault-style rifles.
