A pregnant mother went to the doctor for abdominal pain, but left with a heartbreaking diagnosis.
Danielle Janofsky, of New Jersey, was six months pregnant with her second child when doctors found melanoma in her kidney, stomach, liver and brain, according to her GoFundMe page.
"The only treatment option for her advanced melanoma was immunotherapy, which is not advised during pregnancy," according to Today.
“With her best friend by her side, she sacrificed herself to save her son, a beautiful tiny boy named Jake,” Janofsky’s mother, Barbara, wrote on Facebook. “Three days later she was gone.”
The GoFundMe page is to help Janofsky’s husband, who is a K-9 police officer, create trust funds for their children.
"Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer, with more than 87,000 Americans expected to be diagnosed this year," according to Today.
The family wants to remind everyone to use sunscreen for protection before outdoor activities.
