Predawn fire damages Buckhead home

A Buckhead house being rented by four college friends from Auburn University went up in flames Friday morning before dawn.

Atlanta firefighters battled a blaze early Friday, Mar. 8, 2013 at a home in a Buckhead neighborhood. The fire broke out shortly before 6:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of Dellwood Drive off West Wesley Road.

Room mates, Sally Pound (left) and Francie McMath (right) embrace at the loss of their belongings in the fire. "I drove up to about 10 fire trucks and lots of flames," McMath said. "I'm in total shock right now. It's awful." Miller said the home appeared to be a total loss. "I'm just glad no one was here, and everybody's okay," McMath said.

The home was being rented by four college friends who graduated together from Auburn University. One of the friends,Francie McMath, found out about the fire when she returned home from working an overnight shift as a nurse in the cardiac intensive care unit at Emory University Hospital.

The fire broke out shortly before 6:30 a.m.

Flames could be seen shooting from the windows on the second floor of the large two-story home.
