Two teens were shot late this morning in southwest Atlanta during a burglary attempt, according to police reports.
Just before noon, Atlanta police reported that two 15-year-old boys with gunshot wounds were driven to Fire Station 9 at 3550 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive for first aid.
Police spokesman Sgt. Greg Lyon said one of the teens was shot in the leg and the other in the arm.
According to reports, the teens were driven to the fire station from an incident in the 3000 block of Imperial Circle near Therrell High School.
According to police, the teens broke into the home around 11:41 a.m., and were shot by the homeowner.
“The homeowner said his back door was kicked in,” police spokesman Sgt. Greg Lyon said. “He saw two people and he shot them.”
The two injured would-be burglers fled the home to a waiting SUV, which took them to the MLK Jr. fire station for treatment of their wounds, police said.
The teens were then taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where they are stable and “will survive their injuries,” Lyon said.
Two more uninjured individuals in the SUV were taken into custody for questioning, police said.
The two 15-year-olds were charged with criminal attempt to commit burglary, Officer John Chafee with Atlanta police said.
Atlanta Public School officials reported that the school was on a soft lockdown while police searched for the burglary suspects in the area, but police have not said whether the shooting and the lockdown are connected.
The lockdown was lifted around 12:30 p.m.
In an unrelated incident, five people were shot Tuesday afternoon just outside Therrell's campus by 17-year-old student Marcellus Brooks, authorities said.
Brooks was arrested and charged with five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is being held without bond at the Fulton County Jail.
