DeKalb County police Monday identified the two suspects wounded in Friday morning’s shootout with officers at a Glenwood Road apartment complex as Eddie Ball and Ivy Shumake.

Ball, 39, and Shumake, 37, are convicted felons, according to DeKalb police Capt. S.R. Fore.

Shumake was released from prison in March after serving 14 years following an armed robbery conviction in Clayton County, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. Ball was released from prison in August 2009 after serving nearly two years after being convicted on various drug charges in Fulton County, according to the DOC.

Fore said Ball and Shumake remained hospitalized Monday, each charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, armed robbery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Two DeKalb police officers – Tony Luong and Devon Perry – were also wounded in the predawn shootout.

Luong, 26, remained hospitalized Monday following surgery for a gunshot wound to the thigh, Fore said. Perry, 29, was treated for a gunshot wound to the calf and released from the hospital on Friday.

Perry and Luong were responding to reports of a home invasion robbery in progress at the Colony Ridge Apartments shortly before 7 a.m. Friday when they were fired upon immediately after exiting their vehicles, police said.

Ball was critically wounded in the exchange of gunfire, while Shumake was wounded but managed to flee the apartment complex. He was captured about four hours later after being tracked by K-9 units to a nearby cemetery, ending a massive manhunt that led to several nearby schools being put on lockdown.
