Atlanta police on Wednesday identified the person believed responsible for shooting a child in the leg.

Police are looking for 32-year-old Jacobe Antoine Gilbert.

The 8-year-old girl was struck late Monday night in the 1200 block of Gun Club Road, police said.

The child was conscious and alert when officers arrived, Atlanta police spokesman John Chafee told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. She was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.

Channel 2 Action News reported that the victim was in bed when a stray bullet entered her family’s apartment and struck her in the leg.

Police found several shell casings from an assault rifle scattered in the parking lot of the Shawnee Apartments, according to Channel 2.

An altercation ended in gunfire, and a round pierced the wall of the upstairs unit where the girl was in bed.

Police are asking that anyone with information about the shooting call Investigator P. Joseph at 404-658-6486.
