The man who was bound and beaten during a home invasion in Athens was burned on the back with an iron, police said Thursday.

There were injuries to other parts of the man’s body, including one of his hands, Maj. Mark Sizemore told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

About 2 a.m. Wednesday, three masked and armed men broke into a home on Highland Park Drive, police said. The invaders split up the pair. The woman was put in a bathroom. The man was tied up, beaten and burned. He remains at a local hospital, Sizemore said. The woman was not physically injured.

Police have not released their identities. The suspects are still at large.

“We are focusing a great deal of attention to this case and following leads,” Sizemore said.
