Local and federal authorities were investigating a methamphetamine operation in two southwest Atlanta homes late Wednesday.

Search warrants were executed at two locations on Nelms Drive, Sgt. Greg Lyon with Atlanta police said.

“In one location, a fully operational methamphetamine laboratory was discovered,” Lyon said in an emailed statement. “In the other, a substantial amount of methamphetamine in various stages of production was discovered.”

A hazardous materials team, including Atlanta firefighters, was expected to remain at the scene through the night to contain the potentially dangerous materials and determine the extent of the operation, Lyon said.

Police expect to release additional information about the investigation Thursday.
