Police are looking for a Georgia Highlands College student from Atlanta who allegedly made a credible threat against people he knew, officials said.

The 21-year-old student, whose name has not been released, made a blanket threat of gun violence directed at “associates,” the Floyd County Police Department said in a statement. He did not directly mention the school or specific people, but authorities locked down and secured the school’s two Rome campuses as well as the Cartersville campus.

“All students are safe and no longer at the schools,” the statement said.

The man has not been arrested, but police said they have a description of him and his vehicle. Investigators also have “a line of communication open” with him, police department spokesman Sgt. Chris Fincher told AJC.com.

Officials learned of the threat about 11 a.m. Thursday, police said, after the FBI received a call with a tip and relayed it to the GBI.

In an updated statement Thursday, Floyd County police said the case was no longer in their jurisdiction, and they turned it over to the district attorneys’ offices in Floyd and Bartow counties.
