The 28-year-old man who was shot to death in College Park Friday afternoon may have died because of an argument over a bicycle, police said Saturday.

“It is a sad thing that something like this takes place over a piece of metal,” Officer Wayne Hood told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

David Myers, of Decatur, was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Detectives were still searching for the suspect late Saturday morning, Hood said.

Witnesses told police that David Walter Roberts Jr., 30, shot Myers outside the Chevron Food Mart in the 2200 block of Godby Road. Officers were called about 4:45 p.m. and arrived to find Myers with a gunshot wound to his chest, Sgt. Jeff Hightower said.

Roberts, whose criminal history includes two prior felony convictions, should be considered armed and dangerous, according to police. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is advised to call 911.

The shooting remains under investigation.
