Atlanta Police believe a church van was used in an early morning smash-and-grab robbery in southwest Atlanta.

Around 3 a.m., a white van crashed into the entrance of the City G.E.A.R. sports apparel store at 3030 Headland Road, Atlanta Police spokesman Capt. Jack Snowden said.

“Two subjects jumped out and ran into the store and grabbed up as much merchandise as they could,” Snowden said.

The passenger van, he said, “belongs to some church, we suspect … and is possibly stolen.”

A witness speaking to Channel 2 Action News was unable to identify the name of the church but said she recognized the word “International” on the side of the van.

Police are using surveillance video to get more details that might lead to an arrest.
