An 11-year-old DeKalb County boy died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday.

DeKalb police spokesman Capt. Stephen Fore said a friend discovered that Joshua Hunt had shot himself with a handgun Friday afternoon at his residence in the 4900 block of Hidden Creek Place. Police were called to the residence shortly before 3:30 p.m. and were investigating the shooting scene for about three hours.

Fore said investigators had not found anything to indicate that the shooting was anything but self-inflicted, but that an official ruling on whether the shooting was accidental was pending.
