Police are investigating what they believe is a murder-suicide at a San Antonio home, where a Texas mom allegedly killed her two children, her mom and herself.

The father of the two children discovered the heinous scene Monday morning at an apartment complex on the north side of the city, according to news station KABB. Police were called about 8:30 a.m. and told several bodies were inside the Sedona Ranch Apartments residence.

Once police entered the apartment, the bodies of the two children -- a boy, 3, and a girl, 5 -- a 38-year-old woman and her 68-year-old mother were found in two separate rooms, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus told the station.

Police believe the mother shot her two children and her mother before turning the gun on herself. According to statements the police received, the woman had recently lost custody of her two children.

The children’s father had been trying to make contact with the mother for a while unsuccessfully before he arrived at the apartment Monday. Prior to this incident, the man, who was estranged from his wife, told police she had not previously showed signs of violence.

Police are still investigating when the shooting happened.
