Police arrest alleged driver of car that went airborne in Cobb

The driver who police say caused Monday morning's spectacular multi-vehicle wreck at the intersection of Atlanta and Windy Hill roads in Smyrna has been arrested and charged with reckless driving.
Smyrna police spokesman C.D. Graeff said David Wayne Ballard, 46, was driving a Mazda RX8 westbound on Windy Hill Road at about 7:45 a.m. Monday when the Mazda left the roadway near Dixie Avenue and traveled under the CSX railroad bridge before becoming airborne and landing on top of three vehicles on Atlanta Road.
Graeff said four people were taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, one in critical condition.
The accident remains under investigation, he said.
Ballard is being held in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
