Crew are expected to return to Singleton Road in Gwinnett County on Thursday morning to continue repairs after a huge power pole fell across the roadway Wednesday morning.

Georgia Power crews cleared the pole and temporarily continued to divert traffic in order to make repairs, spokesman Jacob Hawkins said. Law enforcement was on the scene redirecting traffic. The road was reopened Wednesday night, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Officials still have no idea why the pole fell. Hawkins said it had been recently inspected and there was no indication that it would fall.

About 500 customers were without power due to the fallen pole, but all customers had their power restored by noon, spokeswoman Carol Boatwright said.

The metal utility pole came down onto Singleton Road before 6:30 a.m., blocking all lanes in both directions between Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Thompson Parkway.

A second pole also fell onto a nearby grassy area.
