Magnificent mums brighten any garden

Chrysanthemums run the gamut, from plants that are bushy mounds covered with blossoms to those that are stately, upright, and capped by one or just a few humongous blooms.

Chrysanthemums run the gamut, from plants that are bushy mounds covered with blossoms to those that are stately, upright, and capped by one or just a few humongous blooms. Colors and forms of flowers are equally variable. Generally, you just buy the kinds of mums that you like, plant them, then do nothing more than enjoy their blossoms.

Mums are a popular choice for Atlanta gardeners. Dr. Curtis Reding is pictured tending to his prized mums.

Chrysanthemums come in a variety of colors, and will complement almost any garden.

James Farmer, a Macon garden designer, has designed a planting plan for a historic garden that emphasizes color every season. Fall, though, is his favorite season because he uses tropicals, such as coleus, and salvias that perform best in late summer, just as he's adding traditional mums, etc.

Florist mums can be planted in the garden and will re-bloom with a bit of summer care.
