Campus memorial service for Eve Carson

A mourning University of North Carolina campus vowed Tuesday to continue the legacy of its slain student leader, who was shot to death and left on a street earlier this month.

Approximately 10,000 people attended the service. Carson was shot to death on March 5 in Chapel Hill. Laurence Lovette Jr and Demario James Atwater have been charged with her murder.

Mourners cry at the service. Eve Carsons's father, Bob Carson, said in a statement through Dean of Students Melissa Exum that students should find solutions for the greatest needs of the world, including violence, prejudice and inequity.

Mourners wore ribbons and a sticker in her name.

Eve Carson was a 2004 graduate of Clarke Central High in Athens. A scholarship fund, the Eve Marie Carson Memorial Fund, has been established in her memory.
