September 20, 2016 Atlanta : The moon set late in the morning over a lone worker standing high on top of the structural steel of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016 as construction continued on the $1.5 billion rising home of the Falcons and the Atlanta United soccer team. The Falcons have ordered about $200 million worth of changes to the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium and attributed it to issues associated with structural steel. September 20, 2016 DeKalb County : Gasoline Tankers continued to fill up at Kinder Morgan Southeast Terminals at 6430 New Peachtree Road in DeKalb County on on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016. After gas shortages following an Alabama pipeline leak, motorists are sure to pass gas stations in metro Atlanta with plastic bags over pumps or higher than normal prices. Even with Gov. Nathan Deal’s executive order preventing businesses from price gouging, the mere cost of doing business has pushed average Georgia gas prices up more than 26 cents from where they were a week ago, according to AAA. A main gas line is expected to restart Wednesday with a temporary bypass after a leak and spill in Alabama led to surging fuel prices and some gas shortages across the South, a company official said Tuesday. The roughly 500-foot (152- meter) section of pipe that will serve as the bypass is now complete, and the company expects that will allow it to restart the main gasoline line, Colonial Pipeline spokesman Steve Baker told The Associated Press. "Tomorrow's restart of the main gasoline line is a key milestone," Baker said. "However, it will take a few days for the fuel supply chain to fully recover." JOHN SPINK /JSPINK@AJC.COM

September 16, 2016 Sandy Springs : A report of shots fired at the Art Institute of Atlanta on Friday morning, Sept. 16, 2016 turned out to likely be an elevator door slamming shut, police said. Sandy Springs spokeswoman Forrest Bohannon said police responded to the campus at 6600 Peachtree-Dunwoody Road shortly after 10:30 a.m., when they received a 911 call. Police evacuated the building as a precaution but found no active shooter nor any indication of shots fired. "It's possible that during a power outage the fire alarm went off and closed the metal doors in the building, which sounded like gunfire," Bohannon said. September 19, 2016 Atlanta: Employees headed back to work after the Richard B. Russell Federal Building and Courthouse was given the all-clear after a suspicious package was found Monday morning, Sept. 19, 2016. The U.S. Marshals Service evacuated after the package was spotted outside the building at 75 Spring Street, Officer Kim Jones told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Deputy U.S. Marshal Gretchen Fortin told Channel 2 Action News that an employee saw a backpack near a trash can at the entrance of the building. Chopper footage showed robots canvassing the area. If battling traffic was not enough of a headache, drivers across metro Atlanta began the work week with a new problem: gas shortages following an Alabama pipeline leak on Monday Sept. 19, 2016. From a Smyrna QuikTrip to a Hiawassee Ingles Gas Express, people found blank gas price signs and plastic bags around pumps. "The analysts that we've spoken to really say there's enough gas supply available," AAA spokesman Garrett Townsend said. "However, it's tightened up a little bit, so it's gonna take a little longer for those trucks getting to the stations, filling back up and that gasoline being available for motorists. September 16, 2016 Doraville : Tanker trucks lined up for a long wait on Friday, Sept. 16, 2016 at the Kinder Morgan Doraville terminal at 6430 New Peachtree Road in Doraville where gasoline is distributed from the Colonial pipeline. Gov. Nathan Deal signed an emergency order aimed at smoothing the flow of gas into Georgia after a pipeline leak spilled an estimated 250,000 gallons of fuel in Alabama and caused an immediate bump in gas prices. More than 500 staffers were working to repair the Colonial Pipeline leak in Helena, Ala. along a stretch of pipeline that helps supply metro Atlanta with fuel. The average gas price in Atlanta rose from about $2.15 a gallon on Tuesday to $2.22 on Thursday, while national prices barely budged. The longer the outage continues, the greater the effect in Atlanta, said Gregg Laskoski, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy, which specializes in fuel information. Colonial is one of two companies operating large pipelines from Gulf refineries, and the other company has not reported a problem, Laskoski said. “But the Colonial pipeline is the primary supplier to the metro Atlanta area,” he said. The Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) assisted Fulton County Police with the single car crash that killed an Atlanta rapper, Carlos "Shawty Lo" Walker Wednesday morning, Sept. 21, 2016 in a fiery crash on I-285 in south Fulton County. Carlos "Shawty Lo" Walker, the artist known for the hit "Dey Know," died in the accident on the I-285 southbound ramp to Cascade Road. Shawty Lo was also a member of the Atlanta rap group D4L, who scored a hit with "Laffy Taffy." After initially describing the crash as a hit-and-run, "it has been confirmed now that it was a single car accident," Fulton police spokeswoman Cpl. Maureen Smith said. The crash happened about 2:20 a.m. and temporarily blocked the ramp to Cascade Road. "The driver, 40-year old Carlos Walker, lost control of his vehicle, a 2016 Audi, leaving the roadway and striking a tree, causing the vehicle to overturn and catch fire," Smith said. and pronounced dead on the scene, Smith said. Two women in the car were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Just before the deadly wreck, Shawty Lo was at the Blue Flame on Harwell Road. He referenced the Atlanta strip club early Wednesday in several posts on his Instagram page. At the crash site, a copy of Shawty Lo's "Put Some Respek On It" CD was found on the side of the road. September 16, 2016 - Atlanta - Newly sworn in citizens cheer and wave flags after taking their oath of citizenship. The "New Americans Project, "a voter registration effort organized by the League of Women Voters of Georgia, over the past three years has managed to register more than 15,000 newly minted citizens.
