APRATMENT FIRE FORCES EVACUATIONS--May 13, 2016 College Park: Sixteen people were safely evacuated from a burning apartment complex in College Park Friday, May 13, 2016 thanks to a man who went through the complex knocking on doors. College Park Fire Chief, Wade Elmore said, "I'm very thankful for this individual," as his crews arrived on the scene at the Old Town Villa apartments located at 2200 Godby Rd in College Park with "Heavy fire" conditions. The 2-alarm blaze was called in at 4:30am where the fire went "Both ways across the attic," Elmore said. 3 other fire department jurisdictions were called in for mutual aid from Clayton County, East Point and Fulton County. The man who knocked on the doors, resident, Michael Cox said, "I thought about my family, if my family was in there I'd like for someone to come knock on my window, my door." Resident Sherell Tucker lost everything as she and her 6-children were asleep when the knock came on the door. "Everything is gone. My kids don't have shoes or anything. I have to start all the way over, I have zero," Tucker said. Chief Elmore said there were no injuries and the fire is under investigation. The pilot of a plane was killed Saturday afternoon when it crashed during an air show at DeKalb Peachtree Airport, officials said. The crash occurred near the end of the Good Neighbor Day Air Show and Open House at PDK, about 4:49 p.m. The pilot was from the Augusta area, airport director Mario Evans said Saturday at a media briefing. FIST BUMP FINISH--MAY 14, 2016-ATLANTA: Around 600 runners including children and dogs took the streets for a 5 k run, the race marks the beginning of the 14th annual Kirkwood Spring Fling Festival on Saturday May 14th, 2016 at Bessie Branham Park in Atlanta. During all day people will enjoy music food and arts craft and a BBQ contest and plenty of activities for the kids.
