Future generations followed this tradition and this year 40 Beehive firecrackers have been placed around the city, each firing 600,000 shots, as the Taiwanese believe the 'baptism of fireworks' gets rid of calamity and troubles while bringing good fortune in the new year. February 10, 2017 Douglasville: Wrecker driver, Steve McKenzey readies to haul off a vehicle involved in a crash the Georgia State patrol was investigating Friday morning, Feb. 10, 2017 in Douglasville. In a written email, the DPS Public Information Office said a school bus slowed to a stop on GA 92 NB near Sunset Drive to allow a handicapped child to load the bus. Traffic began slowing behind the bus. A ford expedition swerved into the right lane from the left lane to avoid rear-ending another vehicle. The expedition then struck the rear of the bus with its front bumper. The passenger of the expedition was transported with non-fatal injuries, as well as five of the rear school bus occupants to be checked out by medical personnel. The children were high-school aged and were transported to be checked out for possible minor injuries. There were a total of 21 children on the bus. JOHN SPINK /JSPINK@AJC.COM

February 14, 2017 Atlanta : Workers straddled steel beams on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 as work continued on the $1.5 billion dollar Mercedes-Benz Stadium which will feature a retractable and a halo-shaped video board (58 feet tall and 1,100 feet around) that will encircle the field within the circumference of the roof opening. The Falcons say they have have sold hundreds of new personal seat licenses for Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the days since their loss in the Super Bowl. The Falcons said 76 percent of the available seat licenses at Mercedes-Benz Stadium have been sold last week. The stadium will have 71,000 seats, but about 10,000 are excluded from the PSL inventory, such as those in suites and sponsorship deals or set aside for other business purposes. The total cost of building Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which will be home to Arthur Blank's Atlanta United soccer team as well as to the Falcons, is currently projected to be $1.5 billion. In addition to the $850 million in loans, $200 million of the construction cost comes from bonds backed by Atlanta hotel-motel taxes, $200 million from the NFL and a yet-undetermined amount from sales of personal seat licenses.
