Police are investigating a hit-and-run that left a pedestrian dead Sunday night in Clayton County.

Officers responded to the area of Forest Parkway near Ellenwood Road about 11:30 p.m., police said. When they arrived, officers found Dexter Wilcoxson dead.

They later determined Wilcoxson, 57, of Gainesville, was walking eastbound on Forest Parkway when he was struck by the side mirror of a vehicle and knocked to the ground.

He was then struck by another vehicle, Clayton police Sgt. Ashanti Marbury said.

While the driver of the first vehicle remained on the scene, “the driver of the second vehicle continued driving eastbound on Forest Parkway,” Marbury said.

"At this time, officers are working to obtain a description of the vehicle that left the scene after striking the male.”

There have been no arrests in the incident.
