Brookhaven police Tuesday released the name of a pedestrian critically injured in an accident last month that left a second pedestrian dead.

The accident happened about 3 a.m. June 22 on Buford Highway. While the driver of the car was not found at fault, police said Armando Segura-Chaves and the other pedestrian may have been drunk.

“The accident investigation revealed that the vehicle involved was traveling south on Buford Highway when the two pedestrians ‘darted’ in front of the vehicle from the east side of the roadway,” Brookhaven police Major Brandon Gurley said in a news release.

“Accident investigators determined that the two pedestrians … were leaving a nightclub establishment in the area of the incident when they were struck by the vehicle.”

Segura-Chaves, 35, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition. The other pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and the passenger were not injured.

Segura-Chaves remains hospitalized, Gurley said. Investigators were still trying to confirm the dead man’s identity Tuesday.
