Passenger killed in Clayton County crash
Clayton County police are investigating a wreck Sunday on I-75 that left a passenger in a sport utility vehicle dead.
The wreck happened on I-75 southbound just before the Ga. 85 exit.
Clayton County police spokeswoman Ashanti Marbury said a Ford Explorer left the roadway and overturned in a wooded area. The woman driving the Explorer suffered “extensive injuries to her lower extremities” and was taken to a local hospital, she said.
“Once the vehicle was returned to an upright state, police located a deceased male seated in the passenger side of the vehicle,” Marbury said.
The dead passenger’s name was not immediately available.
Marbury said witnesses told police the woman was driving erratically and weaving in and out of traffic before clipping a pickup truck in a neighboring lane while attempting to change lanes.
“Witnesses stated that when the Ford Explorer made contact with the pickup truck, the driver lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and flipped over,” she said.
The driver’s name has not been released.
