Less than two years ago, two Coweta County parents lost custody of their six children after struggling with methamphetamine.
They later regained custody, but are now behind bars in connection with the Sunday death of their 2-year-old daughter, Aleigha, officials said.
Elizabeth Lynn Lee, 29, and Daniel Lenwood Lee, 28, are facing felony charges following Aleigha’s death, according to Coweta County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Col. Jimmy Yarbrough.
The mother was charged with felony murder and aggravated battery, while the father was charged with child cruelty in the second degree, Yarbrough said. They were denied bond at their first court appearance.
Officials have not released many details about the investigation, but Yarbrough said it started with an early morning 911 call Sunday. The parents woke up to find Aleigha unresponsive, according to the sheriff’s office.
The GBI performed an autopsy but the cause of death remains under investigation, according to Coweta Coroner Richard Hawk.
Aleigha’s five siblings were placed in the custody of the state after the arrests, Yarbrough said.
