Oncology practice agrees to $4.1 million settlement

A leading Atlanta oncology practice has agreed to pay $4.1 million to settle claims it violated the False Claims Act by billing Medicare for services that were not permitted under the agency’s rules, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

The settlement was reached by Georgia Cancer Specialists, which has 27 offices in the state. The resolution closes a federal investigation into the practice’s billing for evaluation and management services on the same day as a related procedure — which generally is not permitted under Medicare regulations, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.
