Florida authorities have charged a woman with felony aggravated battery on an elderly person after she allegedly slapped a 72-year-old woman who denied her Facebook friend request.

The woman denied Rachel Anne Hayes' request "because she felt the name that Hayes was using on Facebook was inappropriate," according to a statement from the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

She told Hayes Wednesday evening she would accept the friend request if Hayes changed her profile name.

According to deputies, Hayes became upset, walked out of the home, then returned to the home.

“The two re-engaged in an argument at the front door of the home,” according to the statement. “Deputies say Hayes slapped the victim several times, before the victim was able to retreat into the home and lock the door.”

When deputies went to the residence, Hayes was gone. Authorities arrested her about 4 a.m. Thursday and took her to the Pinellas County Jail without incident. She was released just after 9 p.m. Thursday, according to online jail records.
